Sure, you’ve heard of the usual New Years festivities. Things like champagne or sparkling cider, fireworks, or even pork and sauerkraut, (or black-eyed peas and cabbage, depending on where you’re from) but have you heard of the tradition of the New Year’s Pretzel?
This tradition dates back hundreds of years ago in Germany. This delicious yeast-raised sweet, pretzel-shaped pastry is thought to bring you good luck all year long. In many parts of Germany and other places in Europe, these pretzels are eaten for breakfast, or directly after the clock strikes midnight.
Here at Montgomery Bakehouse, we think the best way to kick off the new year is with one of our scratch-made New Year’s Pretzles. Available in a handful of flavors like Cream Cheese, Raspberry, and Cinnamon, start your year off with a pretzel, and 2020 may just be your sweetest year!
